The Isle of Mull, Summer 2017

Our adventure on Mull has come to an end, and it has been fantastic.

We explored villages, bays, beaches, rivers, bridges, castles and probably the most important religious site in Scotland on the glorious islands of Mull and Iona. We have seen where warriors, lords and kings have been buried, met interesting people, chatted with a real Clan Chief and eaten well.

The weather was not particularly kind to us, but we managed to avoid all the soakings that we were due by nothing short of miraculous fortune and our dispersed family unit has become tighter knit in the process.

Everyone loved the island, everyone wants to go back… no one wanted to leave. By any measure I would consider that a success!

The snoring squid… he was asleep when we first saw him and definately snorring, it was probably the most awesome thing we have ever seen. Even if he isn’t a squid.

Hot tub crab will not leave his hot tub. Mainly as it contains a large quantity of fish fingers. Today we went crabbing and caught about a dozen of them in a short space of time off an old pier at A’ Charraig, Calgary Bay on Mull

Lovely weather finally appeared at Iona Abbey – I didn’t think we were going to get here, even more so this morning when it was wet and windy. Glad we decided to go for it anyway as it turned out to be a really good trip!

I spent all week wanting to photograph these old boats at Salen on Mull, and finally – on the way to the ferry back to Oban – I got around to doing so!

Bit of a chill out day today – walk out from the cottage and around Tobermoray with a bit of lunch and spending of some of their holiday money off Grandad (each chose one book and I got an extra one too – the rest will be for more ice cream!)

They may drive us absolutely crazy… but they are very sweet really 😉

Chasing the Fairies

Week one of our first summer holiday with all the children together has been filled up with adventures local to the South Lakes – walks in the woods at Fairy Steps (and seeing Grandad), swimming lessons every day, trips to the cinema and playing with the new puppy Roki.

Dakota has, thus far, enjoyed herself immensely with no trace of homesickness whatsoever. It has been great!
